From Unused Shed to Art Studio - Part 1

From Unused Shed to Art Studio - Part 1

After growing my business, my house became overrun with my artwork. It had become a workshop where I cast my plaster moulds, created my artwork, framed, varnished, and dried my work. In the end, I didn't have a house!

My shed had become a dumping ground for all the unused stuff that I didn't want in the house, so one day I decided to empty it out and create an Art Studio. I wanted a space where I could fully immerse myself in my creative process, away from the distractions of daily life.

Why I Chose to Hire Professionals

Knowing my limits when it comes to DIY jobs around the house, I knew that building was definitely outside my scope of work, so I got my 'go-to' renovation builders to do the job. I wanted the transformation to be seamless and professional, ensuring that every detail was taken care of.

The Versatility of Melamine

We came up with the idea to use melamine for the lining of the Art Studio because of its versatility. Melamine is a durable material that is perfect for a creative space like mine. It is resistant to scratches, stains, and moisture, making it ideal for protecting my artwork and creating a clean and organized environment.

One of the best things about melamine is that it comes pre-coated, so there was no need for painting. This saved me a lot of time and effort, allowing me to focus on setting up my studio and getting back to my art.

A Functional and Stylish Space

With the help of my builders, we designed the Art Studio to be both functional and stylish. The melamine lining provided a sleek and modern look to the space, creating an inspiring atmosphere for my creative process.

The strength of melamine allowed me to easily install shelves where I could store my paints, ensuring that they were displayed safely and securely. To make the shelves, I saved the offcuts from the melamine and mounted them using 'L' brackets. They were a breeze for me to install because I could just drill into the melamine. No fuss. No stress. The added benefit was that I had peace of mind, knowing that the shelves wouldn't sag under the weight of the paints.

A Sanctuary for Creativity

Transforming my shed into an Art Studio has been a game-changer for me. It has provided me with a dedicated space where I can fully express myself and let my creativity flow. No longer do I have to worry about cluttering my house or searching for a quiet corner to work in.

Having a separate space for my art has not only improved my productivity but also my overall well-being. Stepping into my Art Studio feels like entering a sanctuary, a place where I can escape from the outside world and focus solely on my craft.

If you're a fellow artist or creative soul, I highly recommend considering transforming a space in your home into a dedicated studio. Whether it's a shed, a spare room, or even just a corner, having a space that is solely devoted to your creative pursuits can make a world of difference.

So, go ahead and unleash your creativity. Create a space that inspires you, just like I did with my Art Studio. Trust me, you won't regret it!
